Angarahagraham (The Red Planet) - Mars
The Angarahagraham is none other than the planet Mars, also known as the Red Planet. It is situated quite nearer to Earth. The Mars has Baradhwaja gothram, makes both forward and retrograde moments, generally moves from one zodiac sign to another in 3 months (plus or minus) and continue with its rotation. It has a Mahadsa of 7 years and out of the 27 Stars, Mrigashira, Chitra, Dhanista belongs to Mars and native born under these Stars have Mars Mahadasa from birth for 7 years maximum or less depending upon the padam or Sharan in which birth has taken place. Mars also possesses three aspecting abilities 4th, 7th and 8th from the placement in a native’s birth chart. Precious gem Coral is dedicated to Mars and numerology refers number 9 for Mars.
From an Astrological perspective, being closer to Earth, Angarahan sheds its effect on humans in its most benefic and malefic manner. Mars is regarded as “Bhumi Kumaran” as referenced in some of our old treatise on planet. With the advent of technology, and the photography and videos surfacing show the Mars surface is somewhat similar to Earth. Unlike Earth, the surface of Mars doesn’t have Oxygen and water. However, Varahamihira one of the Mathematician, Scientist made revelations in his book that Mars surface has water and iron which was later confirmed by NASA and ISRO. Empirical data also reveals when configuration of Mars rotation is quite nearer to Earth UFO (Unidentified Flying Objects) are witnessed over Earth. The Astronomical and Astrological perspective of Mars is interesting in the sense they stand interwoven in certain perspective setting an example of what has been illustrated in treaties has been corroborated by the Pictures, Videos captured and sent by Satellites revolving and landed in Mars.
The Greek Mythology describes Mars as “God of War”, similarly, Indian Astrology lays emphasize Mars as a Warrior and possesses the Characteristics of over ruling, using its thump to establish its suzerainty over other planets, the surface of Mars at certain locations have canals, volcanos, possesses the looks of Earth to shed light on the aspect that long ago it was part of Earth and eventually got separated.
The Mars astrological significance is unabated, is a representative of fire element( since it is also referenced as Red Planet) is inferred with wars, war like situations, eruption of volcanoes, enhancement of defense budget, sudden change of head of state, astrologically Mars is also regarded one of the factors of King Maker. Its moment both forward and retrograde is capable of bringing good fortune as well cause havoc over a location affecting humans immensely.
The Astrological importance of Mars in life of humans is of immense value be career, longevity or marriage. In Indian conditions Mars when placed in the 1st, 2nd 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th house is referred to as Manglik, which will definitely cause some negative effect in the house respectively occupied in a natives birth chart. Manglik conditions may vary depending upon other planets aspecting Mars despite its occupying the above (12,4,7,8 and 12 house) which can be correctly deciphered as Manglik by an astute & matured astrologer.
It is an interesting fact that Mars is given the first house of the 12 zodiac sign the ruler of Aries, though Sun is exalted here but it doesn’t belong to Sun. The Sun being the head of nine Planets, referred to as “Navagrahadipati” still the ruling charge is given to Mars? In some of the treaties on planet Mars has been personified as Kartikeya (the son of Lord Shiva) could also be one of the reasons of having glorified as ruler of Aries and Scorpio.
Keeping the glory of Mars Veda Vyasa gave sloka on Mars as under:-
धरणी गर्भ सम्भूतं विद्युत्कान्ति समप्रभम् ।
कुमारं शक्ति हस्तं तं मङ्गलं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥
I pray to Mars, born of Earth, who shines with the same brilliance as lightning, the young man who carries a spear.

The summarized meaning:-
I take refuge in Angaraka who inevitably is the divine Mandara tree to noble dependent devotees, the presiding deity of Tuesday and the son of Earth. He is the Lord /ruler of the cherished houses of Aries and Scorpio, with red limbs, who wears the red dress and is the bearer of the sword and trident. The auspicious one, with beautiful neck, with lovely feet, bestower of auspiciousness, riding on the Goat, and exalted in Capricon. He is worshipped by Gods and demons, one with the face beaming and smiling, bestower of landed wealth and brotherhood, with red eyes, protector of the afflicted, worshipped in the holy Vaideeswaran temple (the temple situated and dedicated to Mars in Tanjore District of Tamilnadu) and favored by the hosts of the Gods and Guruguha. He is the friend of Surya, Chandra and Brhaspati, shining with his devote wife, and his hands on his knees, having four arms, and who is very extraordinary.
It is assimilated from Astrological pointnof view, Mars and Mercury are inimical as such, the general saying goes Pandits (highly erudite Scholars) are found in abject poverty stricken conditions or not very wealthy in contrast to less educated possessing wealth, having business bent of mind enjoying bounty full of happy, pleasurable moments in life. Mercury is always referenced with Education, Training, Analyzing abilities, very good in mathematical abilities, whereas, Mars is referenced with Land, Wealth, Aggression, Aggrendizing abilities.
Sanatana Dharma is full of wisdom, knowledge and solutions for all phases of life be good or not very good. Runa Mochaka Mangala Stotram is recited for over coming the problems of debt, or borrowings as a matter of esoteric solution. For sake of interest the 1st stanza of sloka is given below:-
श्री ऋणमोचक मंगल स्तोत्र
मङ्गलो भूमिपुत्रश्च ऋणहर्ता धनप्रदः।
स्थिरासनो महाकायः सर्वकर्मावरोधकः॥
In treatise your names have been described 1st as Mangal (Auspicious), 2nd Bhoomi Putra (the son of Earth), 3rd Runa Hartha (the one ameliorate from debt stricken conditions), 4th Dhanapradha (the bestower of wealth) 5th Steerasano (the one occupies a very rigid and tough seat that remains stable all through) 6th Mahakaaya (the one who lookwise is gigantic), 7th Karmavarodhaka (the one who dispels hindrances).
Likewise, there are other 10 slokas totalling to 11 that as a whole has to be recited with deference for gaining satisfactory results from debt.
Angaraha (red planet) is full of surprises, a bestower of Wealth, Aggression and other masculine qualities well known for its benefic/malefic attributes, is an ideal planet for predictions for the learned & matured Astrologer. Mars is a great inevitable contributor for peaceful materialistic development on Earth.
