In certain treatise it is engraved that Agni after severe penance tookrebirth as Brihaspati the 7th Son of Sage Angarisa. Brihaspatimarried Tara and had a Son, viz. Kach. TheGreek Mythology also refers Jupiter (Brihaspati) as King of Gods. In Astronomical perspective, it is a largestPlanet in the Solar system, also referred to as “Yellow Planet”.
Brihaspati is “Deva Guru” associated withWisdom, Knowledge, guidance, eloquence, eminence and a path finders forDevas. All Devas seek his blessings,guidance and shelter to successfully complete the designated duties avoidinghindrances. The treatise are filled with stories of varying magnitude, where, Devaswith the Guidance of Brihaspati were able to not only over come problems, butsuccessfully run the Universe with the assigned duties. InBhagwat Gita while Krishna was tutoring Arjuna that “in Sidha tradition I amKapila Muni, amongst the Zodiac Sign I am Dhanu (Saggitarius), amongst Ritu(seasonal change) I am Vasant, amongst Purohit I am Brihaspati”. Brihaspatiis the inevitable Guru, Teacher, Preceptor, the skilled communicator for Devasand all Devas bow in reverence.
The Astrological significance of Brihaspatiis unmatched & unappalled in every sphere, dimension and magnitude. Brihaspati is the only 100% auspicious planet (Shubhgrah). To propitiate Brihaspati generally wearyellow colour clothes on Thursday, adorn Yellow Sapphire stone in the indexfinger, turmeric mixed water/milk is used to water Banana tree everydayspecially on Thursday. Chickpea afterduly boiling is offered to Cow on Thursday. The Atyadi Pratyadi dev for Brihaspati is Brahma and Dakshinamoorthy.
Considering the auspicious qualities of Brihaspati, Sage Vyasa wrote the following sloka :-
देवानांच ऋषीणां च गुरुं का चनसन्निभम ।
बुद्धिभूतं त्रिलोकेशं तं नमामि बृहस्पितम ।।

Buthi Budham Trilokesham Tam NamamiBrihaspathim
I bow in reverence to Lord Brihaspati, who is the rulingdeity of planet Jupiter. He is thepreceptor of all gods and sages. He is the embodiment of Wisdom, Knowledge, whois Shining in golden complexion controlling the three worlds.
Brahma Shri Muthuswamy Dikshitar wrote the Brihaspati Kirtanaas under :-

You are Lord of Strength, Master of Speech, designated Lord of the exquisite Zodiacs Dhanu and Meena (Saggitarius and Pieces), your respected form is worshipped by Indra & other devas, the noble one praised by Vishnu and others.
You are the most esteemed Guru of Devas, the wielder of the thunderbolt, the one with all auspiciousness personified, the undoubted Preceptor of the three worlds, the one devoid of age, anger and father of Kacha. You are celestial wish fulfilling tree (Kalpavriksha)for those intending refuge in you; you are the one who delight Shiva, Guruguha, the one confers offspring, the friend of weak & poor, one who causes the expression of four types of speech, (chatvari vak parimida padaani as referred in Rig Veda) – four types of speech Para, Pashyanti,Madhyama and Vaikari.
Hail to the one; free of diseases, composer of Niti Shastra, no obstacle, sustainer of the world, remain unblemished, enjoys the universe, the complete one and grant (fruits for) sacrifice.
Of the four major Planets that change over longer periodsof time are capable of bringing good and not good results. Brihaspati changes normally in 1 year fromone Zodiac sign to another but capable of moving retrograde too. Interesting fact Kumbh mela – is helddepending upon movement of Brihaspati, to complete 360 degree (full circle)over 12 zodiac signs Brihaspati takes 12 years and when Brihaspati occupiesSingh Rasi (Leo) and when Sun enters Kumbh Rasi (Acquarius) Kumbh mela isscheduled for one month as both Guru and Sun aspect (7th aspect) each other placing themselves at 180 degrees.
