Budhagraham - Mercury the Green Planet
The Budhagraham – Mercury the Green Planet
The Budhagraham is always closer to the Sun in terms of movement. The conjunction of these two planets viz., the Sun and Mercury in a native’s birth chart in the same house can bring positive results and the Astrological term used is called “Budha-Aditya Yog or Yogam”. After Moon, it is Mercury the green planet that rotates faster than other planets. This astrological perspective in itself throw light on certain aspects that are very positive and yields very positive results as human being.
Generally, in astrological parlance Budhagraham is associated with Communication, speech, analytics, Decision Making, very moderate & accurate in data collection, analysis and dissemination, knowledge, wisdom, trade & commerce, accuracy in calculation, generally very good communicator and fine arts & cultural fronts. We can see Writers, Poets, Artists (musician, painters, sculptors and other fine arts Practitioner) including Lawyers have very good placement of Mercury in their birth chart.
The Budhagraham is born to Chandra (Moon) and Tara (consort of Brihaspati, Jupiter). As a result of this Budha went to the abode of Chandraloka, where, he was looked after by Rohini, one of the consorts of Moon. Every Planet is identified as Masculine or feminine but Mercury in many religious treaties has been referred to as neuter gender. After very strenuous, hard tapas successfully undertaken by Budh, Lord Shiva blessed him with an ideal place in Navagraha Mandalam. Many treaties also refer Mercury as none other than a personification of Lord Vishnu slokas to that effect are available in treaties. To corroborate, a sloka in conformity with is placed below: -
Om Santaana Gopalakrishnaaya Namaha,
Om Sarvaloka Paripoornaya Namaha,
Om Budhaaya Namaha
ॐ सन्तान गोपालकृष्णाय नमः
ॐ सर्व लोक परिपूर्णाय नमः
ॐ बुधाय नमः
Considering the significance of Mercury, Sage Vyasa has propitiated Mercury Budhagraham as under: -
॥ प्रियं गुकालिकाश्याम् रूपेनं प्रतिमं बुधम्
सौम्यम सौम्या गुनोरपेथम थम बुधम् प्रणमामयम्:॥
I bow down in reverence to Buddha who is dark, black like a tulip with black colour, who is matchless in form of appearance and extraordinarily intelligent, wise being the son of Soma. He is endowed with pleasing and auspicious qualities.
Brahma Shri Muthuswamy Dikshitar wrote Budhagraha kirtana in Raagam Nattakurinji said to Jhamba Thalam as under: -
बुधमाश्रयामि - रागं नाट कुरञ्जि - ताळं झम्प
पल्लवि

सुर विनुतं चन्द्र तारा सुतम्
अनुपल्लवि

I always seek refuge in Budha, who is worshipped by Celestials, who is the son of the Moon (Chandra) and Tara (wife of Brihaspati). Budha is revered by the learned and brings joy to Bhusuras. He is the bestower of the sweet art of constructing poetry, the one of splendrous wealth, Who is brightly coloured like saffron. Budha’s form gives delight to Guruguha. He is the enemy of Kuja (Mars) and the wearer of a gem-studded crown, necklace, armlets and bracelets. He is the lord of Mithuna (Gemini) and Kanya (Virgo). He holds a book in hand. He is of a neuter gender. He is honoured by his attendants. He is devoid of all sins and bestows benefits on the devotees of Shiva. He is always joyous and delightful.
Budh is a Soumya graham capable of providing peace, tranquillity as a benefic planet to the native born with suitable placement in the birth chart. Generally, it is believed that one can start any good work on Wednesday and it is a normal tendency amongst the people in Northern India to say
“Budh me sabh shud”
बुद् में सब शुद्ध.
Wearing Green clothes on Wednesday reciting “Vishnu Sahasranamam" on Wednesday brings good fortune and are some of the ways of reducing the malefic results of the Green Planet.
